<p>Nearly 80% of American workers report feeling stress at work. Half of those say their jobs are extremely stressful. With so many workers experiencing such high levels of anxiety on the job, it&#8217;s no wonder so many of us feel on edge so often. What are the main causes of on-the-job stress overload, and how can the average employee create a more peaceful workday?</p>
<p>Watch Over Scheduling.</p>
<p>Over committing and over scheduling seem to be the number one stressor in the American workplace. Learning to better manage your work schedule can help decrease office stress tremendously. When work demands become too great, and schedules grow too tight for anyone (no matter how talented), to complete on time, be honest and report it to a supervisor. It may be possible to enlist a few coworkers to help get things back on track, or someone else may be able to take a chunk of the burden from you, at least temporarily.</p>
<p>Avoid Perfection.</p>
<p>No one&#8217;s perfect. Everyone has flaws, and everyone struggles sometimes. Don&#8217;t try to do everything around the office perfectly and don&#8217;t expect others to be perfect either. Acknowledging that you all will make a mistake from time to time, and finding ways to fix them together, can take the pressure off everyone in the office, making a more relaxed atmosphere for everyone.<br />

<p>Learn To Relax.</p>
<p>The body can naturally combat stress by relaxing. When a person actively relaxes during a stressful experience, the body can actually release chemicals into the bloodstream that creates a sense of well being and calm. This is called the &#8220;relaxation response.&#8221; It is possible to evoke these feelings by initiating deep breathing, and other relaxation exercises during an anxiety-inducing day, but the best way to permanently lower stress levels, and better handle anxiety, is to try and prevent it in the first place by taking time out each day for calming activities such as reading, listening to music, or just being still for a few moments.</p>
<p>Solve Little Problems Quickly.</p>
<p>Get control of the office by solving little problems quickly. Don&#8217;t let little issues now turn into bigger ones later. Tackle them immediately for a sense of control. Handling the little things that come your way will also help better prepare you for taking on the bigger stressors that are bound to arrive sooner or later, by teaching you how to calmly look for solutions, figure out options, and implement changes in yourself and those you work with.</p>
<p>Watch Your Attitude.</p>
<p>How a person looks at problems can greatly affect how they react to the stresses in their lives and work. Eliminate some of the stress in the office by taking a healthy look at your circumstances. Smile at the receptionist when you arrive in the morning. Laugh at your coworkers jokes (even if they aren&#8217;t funny). Try to enjoy your job and the people you work with. Changing your outward attitude will help change the way you see the things around you, and the way you react to them. It may take a little practice, but it works.</p>
<p>Adopt A Healthier Lifestyle.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a fact: healthier people are happier people. When you feel good physically, you feel better about yourself, your life and your work. Stress doesn&#8217;t seem to have the same impact on strong, healthy people as it does on those who&#8217;re tired, listless and feeling downright rotten. Think about the last time you had a bad cold. Did every little stressor at work seem like it was going to drag you under? That&#8217;s how an unhealthy person feels all of the time. Exercise, eat well and get enough sleep. That&#8217;ll all help you better deal with the stress at work, and at home.</p>
<p>Stress can be good for you, but it can also cause some major physical and mental health pain, especially when you have to constantly deal with it at work. Try these suggestions for a better outlook, and a less stressful workday.</p>

<p>Relaxation techniques for stress management</p>
<p>There are three main types of relaxation techniques you can practice when you feel upset and stressed out. If you practice them regularly, they will become part of your lifestyle and you may find yourself habitually more relaxed as a result.</p>
<p>This article contains a breathing relaxation technique and an autogenic relaxation technique.</p>
<p>Part 2 will have a Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) exercise to release negative thoughts and situations and a progressive muscle relaxation technique too.</p>
<p>Because of the mind/body connection, exercises to relax the body will also flow through to the mind.</p>
<p>A lot of the stress we feel is due to our resistance to certain feelings, or emotions. Try to relax and let the feeling flow through you. Sometimes just by doing this the feelings will tend to dissipate on their own.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s begin. Find a quiet empty room for 15 to 20 minutes and take the phone off the hook.</p>
<p><span id="more-134"></span>Breathing Exercise.</p>
<p>Do this lying down if possible, arms by your side and legs uncrossed. Loosen any tight clothing. If you can&#8217;t lie down, sit and make yourself as comfortable as possible. This exercise will calm and energize you.</p>
<p>Take a couple of deep breaths, roll your eyes up and let them close. Concentrate on the effects of your breathing on your body. As you breathe in your stomach rises, as you breathe out your stomach falls.</p>
<p>Be aware of the life energy in your body, as you breathe in imagine this energy circulating throughout your body. As you breathe out, mentally say the word &#8220;peace&#8221; in your mind.</p>
<p>Thoughts will attempt to distract you. Rather than trying to force them out, acknowledge them then imagine them just floating out of the back door of your mind. Go back to concentrating on your breathing.</p>
<p>Continue until you feel relaxed. Then gently arouse yourself keeping the feeling of relaxation with you.</p>
<p>Autogenic Relaxation Exercise</p>
<p>You can do this one sitting or lying down. Loosen any tight clothing and make yourself comfortable.</p>
<p>Take a deep breath, hold for the count of three and exhale slowly. Repeat a couple of times. Let your eyes close.</p>
<p>Imagine lying on a deserted beach, you can hear the gentle waves breaking on the sand. In the distance there is the sounds of seagulls.</p>
<p>The sun is shining on your left arm making it warm and heavy. Concentrate on how warm and heavy your left arm is feeling.</p>
<p>Now the sun is moving over to your right arm and making that warm and heavy too.</p>
<p>Go through the same procedure with your left and right leg, your head and neck and your stomach.</p>
<p>Finally focus on your whole body. Feel how warm and heavy your body is. Let your body sink down into the bed or chair.</p>
<p>Stay in this relaxed state for a few moments before gently arousing yourself. Take the calm relaxed feeling with you for the rest of your day.</p>

<p>        Have you ever been up all night with thoughts just racing through your head? If so, you have probably thought about employing techniques that help you learn how to relax your mind. <p>One of the first things you have to do is to actually let yourself relax. People tend to set such a hectic pace for themselves&#8230; this often turns into panic and anxiety. You have to learn to relax and stop working your fingers to the bone without a minute of relaxation.</p>
<p>Learning how to relax your mind involves getting into the right mindset. When you do this you can stop your world from spinning, take a break, and start learning how to relax. Most people are not even aware of what they are doing&#8230; they just automatically fast-forward through their lives&#8230; living on autopilot.</p>
<p>Take some time out for yourself and ask yourself why you&#8217;re so stressed out. It would probably be beneficial to write all these things out so you have a good grasp on what is bothering you. Once you have a clear idea you can start to create a road-map that leads in the direction that you want your life to be headed in.</p>
<p>Cut back ruthlessly if necessary to free up personal time for children, family, pets and most importantly yourself. Learning relaxation techniques like deep breathing and meditation will help you when you&#8217;re trying to learn how to relax your mind.        </p>
